About us

The WEEE Recycling Network has been set up in response to the forthcoming WEEE directive. Our members include manufacturers, retailers, engineers, community groups and council members.

Currently the Network is piloting in the Southwest of England, but all are welcome to become a member when you will benefit from e-mail updates, and of course to use the information on this website.

Aims of the Network

The WRN aims to:

  • Ensure that all businesses and enterprises across the region are aware of the WEEE Directive and the opportunities and requirements that it will bring
  • Maximize the processing of WEEE within the region, keeping profits local whilst benefiting the environment
  • Lobby decision makers with the collective views of our members, ensuring that small and medium size enterprises are not overlooked
  • Encourage an efficient network of collection, assessment, reuse and recycling of WEEE to be developed ahead of legislation

To do this we provide the following support:

  • Provide advice to businesses through this website, member updates and company visits
  • Provide networking opportunities across the region
  • Provide a means of representation for small businesses through the consultation process and other opportunities
  • Develop educational packages to encourage separate collection throughout the community

Funding

The WEEE Recycling Network has been funded for two years through the Onyx Environmental Trust, from the Landfill Tax Credit scheme. This allows the WRN to offer fully subsidised services throughout the introduction of the WEEE directive.

Management

The Network is managed by DARP Environmental Ltd, a not-for-profit Environmental Body. DARP was formed in 1998 and conducts research into the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment. The company has a particular expertise in the requirements of the WEEE Directive, and has a sister company, DARP Consultancy, that offers a wide range of business services.
